Basically I use a circle and expand from there. Circle is my favorite base sketch since I can produce wide-ranging face from it, from moeface to bit more realism to trolls.

You can try to copy various artists' eye drawing style. Don't aim for Sailormoon glittery approach. Simple is fine.

There is no substitute from drawing at real life, and pencil+paper is more practical for those. Classic art teacher advice but true.

Tablet however, is useful for this kind of activity.
