I've read plenty of oneshot heartboner / bonerboner fics that were both substantially more enjoyable and substantially better written than any of these convoluted epic adventure sagas with COMPLEX MORAL CHOICES that get endlessly discussed.

But because there's nothing more to say than "10/10, I came buckets", then, well, no-one says anything more than "10/10 I came buckets". And that's the end of it.

It is a cruel mockery of natural justice, but the fact is that it's not specifically GOOD stories that generate discussion (although it probably doesn't hurt). What generates discussion is more usually controversy and rustled jimmies. So; writing about people who do ridiculous faggotry with bullshit justifications (either intentionally bullshit or bullshit because you're not a very good writer); positing that "X did nothing wrong"; stuff like that.

As anyone on 4chan should know, disingenuous bait gets a lot more replies reasonable discussion. And the corollary is that rambling, pseudo-political sagas where characters pull stupid shit that rustles the audience will get a lot more replies than a cute comfy fic about monstergirls being sexy, despite the fact that everyone will enjoy the latter a lot more.

TL;DR: writefags either die in fond obscurity, or live long enough to see themselves become the baiters.
