For once they did the 'temptress' archetype right, it wasn't so much that I could understand why Eishi was so intoxicated by Kureha that I was right there with him. Which was essential to making the story work, there were a few times after I'd put down the game and gone over the events and I'd thought 'what the fuck, why do you still even put up with her, anything is better than this' but any time I'd be reading everything she said just seemed to make sense.

She's almost an addiction for him, she's making his life actively worse but he can't give it up for that temporary high. Like poker. And the doku-ringo. Eishi's pretty consistent, if nothing else.

I'm glad you liked it, it's amazing to me to think about the kind of knife edge the story hangs over. If Kureha was even slightly less of an interesting/fascinating character or Eishi a bit less of a woobie or Kukuri slightly less lovely, the whole thing falls apart because suddenly you the reader aren't willing to put up with their bullshit and neither can you understand why other characters would either.

I've got a fair chunk of things to bitch about with Lucle but I love the way he does characters, and that alone makes me forgive an awful lot.

Yeah. With you on that one. I mean I know it's just the childish part of me getting mad I can't have everything. It just feels bad. Which is good, I guess. That's probably what he was going for. But damn, it really does feel bad. Lucle seems to want to specifically target people with that 'I want to make everyone happy' mentality (like myself) and then kick them in the dick.

fuck that chapter 8 choice in Istoria, that was the absolute worst. I wanted to see that shitty dad's head caved in.

What do you do when one girl is so clearly best girl that the others don't even hold a candle in a hurricane to her, but you know the route branches are still miles away and just the thought of having to go through all the inevitable moments where they'll try and show off the other girls is actually kinda unpleasant because you don't even want to be convinced otherwise?

With you on that one. Something about the feigned sense of distance or whatever it is tickles the cockles of my heart just so.
