Comiket is pretty cool.

I went on Saturday and Sunday last year (C78), and there was an awesome fireworks display down by the Tokyo bay that evening, so I just hung around the place after Comiket ended.
They'll probably mention that on the speakers in the Big Sight, so you'll know if it's there or not.

The heat is the worst thing about Japan.
My being from relatively cool Scandinavia and staying in my room a lot doesn't really help my adjusting to temperatures.
So drink and eat a lot.
And for the love of everything sacred, bring something to wipe your sweaty face with - if you buy wipes from a convenience store, buy a couple of different kinds and test them before you bring them out in public.
I made a mistake of not doing that and spent a day getting even more weird looks than most white guys normally would because my stubble was full of white fluff from the shitty wipes I bought..
