There would be a massive retreat following the Youkai attack. Reimu might interfere to prevent Youkai from leaving (former?) Gensokyo, but the response from the government following a massacre of Army units. Indirect fire such as artillery and guided missiles would hit Gensokyo, in an attempt to curb the Youkai. These attacks would draw even more attention from the public, media, and politicians demanding transparency. The government would feebly cover it up as 'seismic tests' or 'terrorist' or something. The US government, not buying the lie either, demands the truth from the Japanese government. Folding under pressure, the Japanese government admits that it came into contact with 'previously uncontacted species', keeping it intentionally vague, as the public finding out that monsters of folklore have secretly lived alongside them for centuries would be too much of a shock, especially considering the dominance of religions like Christianity and Islam. I don't know where else I'm going with this story. I wish I had the autism to expand more. I think the youkai would get more violent over the next few months and the pilgrimage of Buddhists, Taoists, etc would just make the youkai more powerful and hungry. The government wouldn't know how to fight them and a coalition of Reimu, Marisa, Alice, and maybe Remilia and Sanae would try to suppress and contain the Youkai incursion. Either Gensokyo is destroyed by the government nuking it or something because it gets too out of hand or it stabilizes and the humans integrate into the outside world, their faith goes away, and the Youkai and Gods die out over the course of years. Bottom line is, Gensokyo would cease to exist in one way or another if it was revealed to the world.
