Judging from responses from here and other English forums and imageboards I would guess that Kaede is the most popular of the Shuffle! girls in the west. Yet in Japan Asa is in the top 10 favorite visual novel heroines of all time.

Cute moe moe girls are the most important element of a VN for me. The purpose of a romance VN is to feel love toward the girls, that's why VNs are almost all multiple ending VNs where you choose between different girls and not VNs where you choose different paths to becoming a super hero or something. So if you don't fall in love with the girls there's no point to have played the VN.
