Chapter 5 opens on the gameboard, on the dawn of October 5th, 1986. Battler is cold and doesn't want to get out of bed, and they look back on the previous night, which was full of lively discussion. Maria was first to go to bed, then Riyu due to how tired he was from the day's ordeals. As Battler wakes up, he realises that George and Jessica are already awake, their beds made, but it's only 7AM. He heads to Riyu's room, only to find they're not there either. After casual conversation, Eva interrupts them to ask if they've seen Hideyoshi, who's also missing, as are Rudolf and Kyrie. The fact that none of the missing 5 have anything to do with each other worries Battler. Eva leaves and Riyu and Battler discuss it further, eventually deciding to head to the mansion, cutting to Natsuhi.
