Fairies are Western in origin and they're everywhere in Gensokyo. Yukari freaked out when some western dandelions got into Gensokyo and called them devilish because it would make the fairies stronger.
Even Reimu said traditional Japanese youkai like rokurokubi and yamabiko are going extinct even in Gensokyo.
