At the risk of blogging I just want to say, as someone who's only being doing this for two months, how satisfying it has been to have previously nonsense moonscribles become a legible script before my very eyes.

If anyone is like lurking this thread like I was a few months ago and debating with themselves on whether or not to actually start learning Japanese I strongly encourage you to just go right ahead and do it. Those runes seem incredibly frightening at first but once you see yourself making even the tiniest bit of progress you won't want to stop.
