Nero wasn't a terrible emperor. Most of his worst crimes like burning Rome WERE historically proven to just be rumors brought on by the senate who hated him. The people for the most part liked him till the fire thing got attributed to him.

Listen to the TTC Learning compant Roman Emperors chapters on Nero. He was one of the better emperors in the begining. And he did fight as a galdiator, charoit racer, actor, singer which was scandalous for the upper class at the time.

Alot of the hate Nero gets is due to Christian hate due to Nero accusing them of setting the fires of Rome, which they actually might have.
