Some Kanji are written differently in Japan (Japanese simplification), Big China (Commie simplification) and Small China (Traditional characters).
Plus, on'yomi is not "Chinese reading". It's Chinese reading at the time it was adopted by the Japanese, which is very fucking long ago, butchered to fit into the laughably poor Japanese phonetic system and changed over centuries as the language itself was changing.

Look up how the Chinese count from 1 to 10 and compare it to how the Japs do it (using what used to be Chinese numerals) to see what I mean. Only 3 is still "san".
