you mean relevant to Tuesdays or in general?
because Prestige/MGStage has their stuff on Thursdays, I think
https://sp.mgstage.com/list/maker_list.php
note that only the ones marked 独占 like KANBi belong to them or are directly affiliated with them through exclusive distribution, the others might just be commercial partnerships (ie buyable on their site) which is why you'll see Faleno and SOD stuff on that page I provided

SOD has their own thing going on for each of their labels and sublabels, affiliated studios, etc.
https://www.sod.co.jp/groupmaker/

then for all the studios not affiliated with one of these huge parent companies, that would be a HUGE list basically of everyone else amounting to 100s of studios with varying degrees of independence, fame and obscurity. That would include everything from big hitters like Alice Japan and KMP to really small-scale stuff. I think zenra has a studio master list which is pretty comprehensive but might not make the distinction between parent companies or provide schedule information

I'm still working on a proper JAV schedule guide that lives up to the standard of autism and discernment of /jav/ but I keep procrastinating on it so I apologise, sirs. hopefully this has been helpful so far

i agree more generally but fortunately, my enjoyment of JAV hasn't been impaired at all, even with the work ethic argument (which in itself will mean different things to different people)

I look at JAV as having had a gradual shift from being act-centric to increasingly context-centric. Obviously, the spectacle of certain sex acts still matter now and context still mattered back then but it feels like they're "weighted" differently; this goes beyond just gonzo vs drama

Because of this, what it means to be considered a good actress in the eyes of the mainstream has changed. If an actress satisfies the modern criteria and gets the recognition for it, they'll probably stick around and keep doing what got them there - at least until other facts come into play. There would be no reason to escalate or return to that older standard of "hard work" whatever that may mean. JAV isn't immune to supply and demand, and unless an outlier like Alice Otsu was dominating sales and (re-)setting the trend, there's no reason for things to be different. That said, there'll always be at least some demand for the Old World so representatives of that style like her should remain a tiny but disproportionately famous and distinct minority

I want to live in the timeline where some sirs post some nicer comments on her page clarifying that the international audience is frustrated about being unable to buy or even browse JAV through normal means. This deeply touches her and she champions the cause to reboot r18 (or make fanza accessible, or create a fresh new alternative), lifting the iron curtain on Amazon JP, etc etc

but I fear that inconsiderate sir has stoked the fires of her curse magic. consequences will never be the same

if you've noticed, JAVs are basically divided into self-contained 25-45 minute scenes so i just watch 1-2 of those without skipping per fap session. i like to take my time and be deliberate with my JAV appreciation but watching all 2.5 hours in one go isn't always practical. my method strikes a nice balance

depends on your definition of addiction. for me, it's when a dependency is so strong, you "lose the freedom (of choice) to abstain".
that isn't a problem for me. I regularly take time off if I'm not feeling like it.

I make a conscious choice to engage with it because I think it's fun(ny) and interesting. it's not some autopilot compulsion

- i went from being a techlet to building my own NAS for JAV
- i had fallen out of love with writing "for fun" because of university but through semi-serious quasi-shitposting here, i've slowly rediscovered my enjoyment for honestly putting thoughts to paper without giving a shit about marking criteria and appeasing professors etc. i'm even journaling again but i'll happily admit /jav/ made it possible for me to enjoy writing again
- i've been studying Japanese way more seriously and consistently
- i'm more relaxed and don't take stuff too seriously. life is sometimes just as absurd as the most whimsical rocket or bermuda release so let's just take it easy and fkn enjoy whatever it throws at us

what about you, sir?

sir, it might be beneficial to not think about it in terms of failure. you're doing this for future you who will surely be grateful for your restraint when you have a mega coom once this is over

Like the other sir said, the sillier stuff and shitposting is a thing but you've been on 4chan(nel) long enough to know that's just part and parcel of the less moderated experience. >What do you recommend?
I'm personally very biased towards dramas featuring repressed and unsatisfied mature women but it's hard to make any recommendations without knowing at least some of your tastes and expectations. Anyone can just recommend their favourites but I'd rather help you from a position of understanding. Do you just want to see really impressive acting chops or something?

>What's their acting like?
It depends not just on the specific actress or even the genre but on different approaches of certain studios, directors, or just on a case by case basis. Some are really wooden and awkward, some are lazy, some are okay but a little one-note. You can get actresses who are noticeably only good at certain genres and really bad in others. You also get incredibly convincing actresses with great range across different roles. There are performances to suit every taste

>Do JAV movies have story?
Yes, but there are also movies without. Note that most JAVs are the length of feature length films (90+ minutes) so there are probably more segments dedicated to story than you'd expect. In movies without story, you might instead get interviews and/or gravure-style shots padding out the runtime.
As for the different approaches to story, there are examples of greater realism and candidness at the expense of dramatic effect. There's exaggerated realism that can sometimes go into a hentai-esque territory. There's wacky and zany, light-hearted stuff.
You can get heavy drama depicting yearning, regret, and all kinds of other serious emotional content. Another big distinction might be vanilla lovey-dovey stuff vs non-vanilla ie rape and other extreme fetish content.

>Is there behind the scenes drama?
If I'm understanding this question correctly, sure. Sometimes there's shenanigans like Kanna Fuji being asked to leave the ballet academy she taught at after they found out about her AV actress side gig; whether stuff like this is real or a publicity stunt is a different story. I don't think there are many cases of "ground zero" drama being made publicly known. Maybe sometimes actresses are known to be bitchy on-set? Maybe some actresses publicly argue and air out their grievances on social media? It's not quite Hollywood showbiz rumour mill but there are occasionally snippets I guess

>Tell me more about this lifestyle?
Everyone's JAV Lifestyle is going to be slightly different. I don't follow any sports teams or bands or mainstream celebrities but can imagine there's a similar thing going on with "following" certain studios and actresses. Add to that the comfy feeling of anticipating new movies on a regular, predictable basis and you kinda get an experience similar to other hobbies where you're enjoying scheduled "content" whether that's anime/manga or whatever. Obviously you can also dig into older stuff from an actress you've recently just discovered.
Then you have all the curating and organising and categorising and storage side of the equation if you're downloading your movies rather than simply streaming them.
You also can't forget that this is still pornographic in nature so it's probably going to affect your masturbation habits. Of course, the discussions here would also constitute part of the Lifestyle. Overall, JAV for me is unironically cinema that lets me explore my sexual fantasies, going beyond just a disposable pleasure for the reasons discussed.

Hope this answers some of your questions, sir

I enjoy Japanese literature (Seichō Matsumoto detective novels in particular), love Japanese fusion jazz (and will go out of my way to collect domestic market vinyl records with the OBI strip), and regularly cook Japanese food at home. I am a casual armchair appreciator of Japanese history, in particular the transmission/adoption of Buddhism and the resulting synthesis with native belief systems like Shinto. I appreciate the golden era of JDM sports cars and prefer their aesthetic to those more commonly seen throughout modern "western" car culture. I am enthusiastic about Japanese cinema; besides the more accessible and internationally prolific Kurosawa, I also enjoy Ozu. Similarly, I appreciate works of Ukiyo-e and enjoy later masters such as Yoshitoshi and Kuniyoshi as much as the better-known Hokusai. I am also a novice but diligent student of the Japanese language and hope to be able to read an untranslated Seichō Matsumoto detective novel one day. None of these things are mutually exclusive to, or precludes my dedication to the JAV Lifestyle — nor vice versa.

Hopefully this answers your question, presumptive tourist-kun.

how recent is the file you're trying to download? torrents work on a peer-to-peer basis so if there isn't anyone else trying to download it and sharing the chunks at the same time as you, it'll take forever to complete. maybe another sir can offer a better and more technical explanation

if you're really struggling, one of us might be able to grab it on a direct download link with a debrid service and reupload somewhere for you

JAV extremists? I am a JAV pragmatist and curationCHAD
There are 365 days a year.
Most actresses do 1-3 releases a month max; of those, not all will appeal to my tastes.
every month when previews are out, I make an assessment of the upcoming releases. I decide in advance what I will download and watch. I take into account that some days I'll be too busy to dedicate the time to a full fap session or two. It's all factored into my calculations. I watch maybe 20-40 titles a month; during a quieter month or long month with an additional week available, I will work on my modest backlog or revisit the classics or rewatch particularly excellent works in the current batch. My JAV lifestyle is like a well-oiled and smoothly-running machine and yet flexible and subjective and human enough to not feel overly rigid.

this is less practical than it may sound since there's so much JAV every month. Instead, I would recommend having a few studios/actresses/tags (even though tags are dogshit in JAV) to follow first on a site like JAVtrailers (or just DMM if you have VPN) and go from there. Most studios drop their previews and releases in batches 1-4 times a month so that can further break down your overview of upcoming releases into more digestible chunks. Let me know if you have any other questions for developing your JAV Lifestyle™
