Police sent papers to prosecutors Tuesday on a man suspected of abandoning a life-size doll in a forest in Izu, Shizuoka Prefecture, after officers were mobilized as the doll was mistaken to be a woman’s body. The 60-year-old man in Izu, charged with a waste disposal law violation, told police he dumped the 1.7-meter-tall plastic doll wrapped in a sleeping bag in the forest on Aug 21 as he did not need it anymore but was at a loss as to how to dispose of it, police officials said.

A passer-by reported to the police Sept 1 that there was something like a body at the site. The object was taken to a local police station and forensic analysis found it was a doll. An officer said the doll was so lifelike that it initially seemed to be a body. The man turned himself in Sept 6 after learning of the fuss via a media report.
