If I were a Japanese schoolgirl, I'd wear my summer uniform whenever it was hot and my winter uniform whenever it was cold. Why even bother setting dates for that sort of thing when the weather is only so predictable?

I'd like to see a zombie setting where the military remains largely intact and just has the nation hollow out beneath it. Like, discipline, chain of command and stockpiles lets the military keep it together while their advanced weaponry and tactics proves laughably effective against what are effectively slow-moving rioters. It'd be neat to examine a setting which is about a large military on the verge of cracking under the stress of trying to hold a nation together that's killing itself with its own thrashing.

You can wipe out an outbreak of zombies trundling down a city street with a carefully placed missile and hold a critical port with fortification, surveillance, and disciplined patrols, but what do you do when the national crisis has destroyed civil society and dissolved the power of the civilian government? When the population is dying in the hundreds of thousands every day from simple starvation, displacement and civil strife? And all of these dead just adds to the zombie problem?

A modern military wouldn't be overwhelmed by zombies. It'd be overwhelmed by the demands a zombie apocalypse would put on them.
