Death of fun spawns from predictability.

Yukari has, at the moment, the Myouren, Moriyas, her shikigami, the Hakurei Madein, the Flower Maiden, two phony goddesses, and even some onis, and, of course, the catalyst of it all—me—against her. Even with Ibarakasen at her 'side', the imbalance was clear, more so after the fascinating revelation of the fox. Sure, it'll still be fun when things go down, but the outcome is foreseeable: Yukari will lose, then there'll be chaos—maybe I'll snag her adorable, innocent cat for myself just to mess with her—and, finally, order and balance.

It wouldn't be fun if things went down like that…

That's why I'm watching my favorite little girl play so carefree with her dolls and whatnot, silk-like blonde hair; a slim figure, and, oh, a so tiny and innocent—

I recoil back as my invisible backdoor erupts into scarlet flames, quickly reduced to nothing. I barely dodged the ray of destruction, face undisturbed, my flowing robes hiding my trembling hands and fastened pulse. It's never a dull moment around Flan-chan~… Opening a second backdoor and slouching over it, I smiled face-to-face with the grinning little girl: "Hi, Kina! Next time, I won't miss!" She waves to me, holding dear a teddy bear.

"Ouch, my fairest maiden heart~" I hold my heart—135bpm, calm down, calm down… And simply smile. "How've you been, Flan-chan?"

"Fine! The goat lady comes to play with me sometimes, and it's so nice, it makes me all giddy inside~!" Her excited features twist a bit, and I think I feel sweat on my nape. "Though she hasn't come to visit in the last three days… I'll probably just have to search for her anyway if she doesn't visit for two more." She shrugs, as if the confirmation wasn't a red alert for the entirety of Gensokyo by itself. "And you, Kina—have you come to play?" The wide smile returns, genuine, yet it fills the air with lead, Flan excitedly jumping on each foot.

"Sorry, I'm a busy god, Flan-chan—maybe when your sister stops being so prude, we can play the way I like." I smile at her confusion, but don't dwindle on that. "For now—I may have, and you won't believe, something even better than my time and presence!" Flan doesn't seem thrilled. "—someone who is willing to play with you!" Oh, the shine came back in buckets.

"Someone to play with me?!" Her wings swung up and down, like a dog's tail.

"Yes! You've met him before—Anon, Reimu's ex-husband."

"Oooh~! I remember him! We didn't do much, but he was so nice! Reimu was a stick in the mud and didn't let us play, though—bleh, she's a big idiot! As if I don't know that you can't play Danmaku with regular humans! Baka, baka, baka!" She kicks a toy. It explodes into nothingness. "I enjoy playing other things too, but that idiot didn't believe me."

"Yep—and no Shrine Maiden around to spoil the fun. He'll play with whoever visits, even quirky little girls like you," she beamed at that. Getting friends is hard, getting human friends? Ho, that's unthinkable… And exactly what Yukarin needs to balance things out: a hyperactive doomsday device around her—and Flan's growing excitement says she has no saying in it.

Ah, the karmic justice~

"I'll go ask sis to take me to him—"

"It's better if you don't talk about it with Remi—you know how she is. She'd want you to stay behind, stay under her wing and protected… Ah, she's always like this, isn't she? Always spoiling the fun. Maybe she and Reimu should marry already, don't you think?"

Cogs turn behind her eyes, too much information for her smooth brain to process at once, so she just nods. "Well, I guess—?"

"Then, let's get you to the beautiful place that is the Hakurei Shrine Experience! I'm sure Yukari and Anon will be overjoyed about seeing you." I gently take her hand, fearing for a single, fleeting moment, for my life—but Flan just lets me guide her through a backdoor, all hyped in her little world about having a human friend to play with—

Oh, just in time, the maid is about to break my last barrier. Heh~

Smiling, the backdoor closes, the room's door exploding with the maid popping out of thin air.

Too late.

"What is this Hakurei Shrine XP, though, Kina?" Flan asks as I guide us through the Land of Backdoors, searching for just the right door—an arduous task, thanks to Yukari, but even she can't hide an entrance from the Matarajin for too long.

"Ah, you see: it's the place Anon works at. It's a lot of fun, and he meets a lot of people daily—wouldn't it be nice to go there every day? Always have a friend close by that'll play with you and won't judge?"

"That sounds mega cool…" She whispers, wings going up and down, up and down, and oh, it's just so very cute~sadly, she'll probably destroy me if I try anything remotely silly. Ah, poor me. Top quality stuff just in front of me, but just out of reach…

Oh, well—time to deliver Yukari her biggest problem yet!

We stop in front of a double glass door, and I smile at Flan; "Welp! Hope you enjoy the HSE, Flan-chan!"
