Yamaha's Vocaloid is just the most popular of the singing engines (thanks to being the first famous one and Miku), but there are tons of them (utau, cevio, sinsy, synthv, neutrino, newtype). And there are also ones that are focused on talking like every text to speech such as voiceroid, though voiceroid is flexible enough that you can make it sing even if it's not it's specialty (like you can make a vocaloid talk). The general terms for the characters in those engine is "vocal character" or "virtual singer", and Kiritan is part of the voiceroid and neutrino (commonly called AI Kiritan) engines.

And each producer (or even song) will have it's own artstyle for the characters. Gyari has a very distinct artstyle.
