It's fine if you're deviating from canon, hell, people have even influenced canon that way, but fanatically clinging to your version won't win fans either.

I think he *believes* he stops time, while he actually doesn't affect time at all, but only himself. He ceases moving forward through time, which from his point of view makes it appear as if time is stopped. Time actually continues moving as usual, but he will not notice since he returns to the same moment he left.
