I do think a genuine intelligence and self-awareness can be sustained by a non-organic brain. Nowadays we are playing with programming rules, but I'm pretty sure humans will be able to create a genuine, non-organic intelligent form of life that uses learning and creativity as their development process, just like humans.

In a way, I think humans are the key for nature to break the barrier imposed by the organic rules and the fact that that kind of life is bond to a planet or a certain environment. Humans are the nature's children and robots will be human's children and will spread all what is good of us all across the universe and for all eternity.
