I haven't read much fiction/history yet, but I haven't seen it anywhere so far. Earlier in the thread ヤリ逃 was with kana and rikai says it's frequency 2261.

Obviously it's common in the sense that it appears in historical video games (like where I found it) but while you don't even know all the jouyo, it's not a priority and the game doesn't even have a Japanese interface so I found them very artificially by typing やり on my browser

It's still my favorite Total War game, I'd heartily recommend it to anyone. I can also recommend all the DLC about the Genpei war and Boshin war, they all play very differently and add tons of replayability.
