Montreal went absolutely nuts for them, for sure the majority of the people there didn't know about them but the crowd reaction was universally positive and energetic, especially considering the fact that they were literally the first band to play and most of the time people just stand there with their arms crossed while waiting for better to play later in the day.

Also festivals are actually crucial for a band to expand its fanbase. For a 2 year-old band Babymetal might be relatively popular but there's so much potential for growth. They could be playing at the end of festivals rather than the beginning of them in a couple of years.

I do agree with the pop star thing, even though they are 30-40% pop, they could maybe instead play everything-festivals like coachella, lollapalooza or osheaga.
