>Ryukishi probably just doesn't want to tarnish his main works with anything that'd cheapen its value.
That's understandable, but he let Alchemist do something a lot worse with the console versions: censorship. Naked Satoko was censored, Yasu being an incest child and Kinzo fucking his daughter was censored, anything having to do with alcohol and minors (like that EP2 scene of drunk Battler) was censored, HOURS upon hours of social commentary in Higurashi were straight up cut from the console versions (mostly scenes in Tatarigoroshi, Minagoroshi and Matsuribayashi). That last one is especially disrespectful because they fucking cut a lot of shit that was important to the story. Half an hour scenes having to do with Tokyo, Koizumi, the child services, etc, summarized in two lines saying "they went and did this". That's terrible.

At least westerners with shit taste can just patch the game and enjoy their soulless Alchemist sprites with the original text. But Japanese readers that choose to go with the console versions have to deal with this censorship and never know what they are missing. It cheapens R07's story, removes some of the best parts, and taints his work.

It's obvious that he dislikes the animes, especially the Umineko one (he tries to be respectful in interviews because of contracts, but he sneakily calls the anime shit in Higanbana). And it's also very likely that he realizes how great his art style and facial expressions are and dislikes the console versions, especially Higurashi. There's no way the man himself wouldn't notice how bland the PS2 sprites look in Higurashi, how derpy that one CG of Takano capturing Tomitake looks, or how those two CGs of Maria straight up RUIN the intended mood of the scenes and the perception you are supposed to have of her character (slightly creepy kid rather than FULL BLOWN PSYCHO WITH A HIGURASHI ANIME FACE).

I think he knows who are his true fans and that's why he'll never stop doing weird fetish episodes of Higurashi, draw the art himself (except in RGD because his art style would do a disservice to the overall aesthetics), use filtered real life backgrounds, etc. He knows what people enjoy about his works and realizes that the console versions butcher them, that's why he'll agree to things like censorship. A true fan would be reading the original versions anyway.

It's not elitism and I'm not saying he thinks like that. I just think Ryuukishi never once considered the console versions definitive in any way. They are just a way to get easy money and hopefully allow people with absolute shit taste and no sense of aesthetics enjoy the actual story, even if the overall product is slightly butchered.
