Ghibli films aren't the equivalent of fast food. They are expertly crafted over a long period with a lot of thought put into them. /a/, by and large, used to love Ghibli way, way back. As the films got more popular, the elitist attitudes switched on. Now you can only mention them when the cool kids are asleep. That's hating things because they are popular in action.

Besides, to many Japanese, Ghibli is a national treasure.
