This is my first time posting on /jp/, so I don't know what your guys deal is, but this is a serious question.

How did north american end up so weeaboo? When did japanese culture start coming into NA, and when did it become almost an obsession for so many people? And why is it basically the only culture that it's acceptable to essentially worship that way? You don't see huge groups of people buying imported russian goods and wishing one day to live in russia, or china, or england, france, kenya, etc...

The only thing I can think of is due to the businesses, like automakers, video game makers, and technology that are Japanese, and there was a cultural trickle down into the masses through these products and companies.

And has it just become so commonplace that it's the "cool" thing now? Be a weeaboo, eat sushi, do kendo, learn 50 japanese words and circlejerk each other to anime?

tl;dr Explain the history and reason behind the rise of Japanese culture in North America.

Picture sort of related, I actually really like anime.
