http://www.mormonwiki.com/April_6

>Scholars have mostly speculated that Christ was born in the spring, because of descriptive elements in the scriptural record. The apostle Paul called Christ the Passover, and Jesus' birth as the Lamb of God fills that image. He was born on Passover, early April, and was crucified on Passover.

Evidence for April 6th among Mormons are Doctrine and Covenants 20:1

Shepherds abiding in their fields. Shepherds only abode in their fields in spring, during lambing season.

Joseph and Mary having difficulty getting an inn. This doesn't make sense if it was because of the census and subsequent tax ordered by Caesar, that took place over years, however if it was passover season as well it makes sense.

Early Christian tradition claims Christ was crucified on his birthday, which makes sense only if he was born in early April. To reconcile this to December 25th some early Christians tried to claim that he died the day he was conceived. Makes only a little sense.

The 12 days of Christmas was another early tradition that Christ was born 12 days after the equinox. They again reconciled this to December 25th by moving it to the solstice. Still April 3rd is closer to April 6th than December 25th is to January 2nd.

We don't celebrate Christmas on April 6th, but it's still an important day.
