The problem isn't ZUN borrowing other ideas. The problem is his fanboys sperging out yelling at the top of their lungs, "ZUN didn't steal anything! Everything he has done is 100% original!". Even ZUN himself has admitted that he was inspired by a lot of sources.

ZUN has been shown to downright steal an engine to use in his PC-98 games, edit sprites from other games, trace drawings, remix music from other sources into his own music, etc. Nobody is faulting ZUN for doing this as countless doujin artists have done this. The problem is ZUN's defenders, not ZUN himself.
