I've tried several Japanese fonts and none of them displayed the note correctly. In fact, the font I'm using right now is a very popular Japanese font even a couple of companies use (M+ Rounded) so I don't see why it wouldn't display it properly. I'm also on Japanese locale and format so it can't be that either.

You're lying . In fact, if you use a non-japanese font, it'll look even worse, with "@"s enclosing the line. Pic related.
