Can we talk about the nearly insignificant, yet still slightly depressing things in our lives?

I use a pirated copy of Windows 7. I didn't apply the crack right, so my installation is aware that it isn't "genuine". Other than a few nag screens, it works pretty much ok.

Whenever a nag screen pops up, though, it clears my desktop background. I can't put any pretty girls or beautiful landscapes up there any more, since they'll just disappear in a few minutes. Instead of being inspired when I turn on my computer or clear to the desktop, I'm just reminded that I'm too poor to afford a legit version of Windows, and too stupid and impatient to figure out the eccentricities of Linux.

The only problem with this thread is the meta discussion and the pointing of fingers. Imagine this thread without those elements: sure, it would be half its current length, but it would still be just like the threads of old. Keep that in mind, friends.

If you cut out all of the meta discussion and finger pointing, this thread isn't any better or worse than the old threads, IMO. I think a year from now people will look back and say this wasn't so bad.
