That's interesting. I was reading about the AI in podd and it seems like they are on a timer. So they will do unnatural dodges until a certain amount of time passes and then they will kill themselves. The ai doesn't have forsight though, and like you said, it can be cornered, which will make it use a bomb. If out of bombs, it will simply die, which doesn't count for the "timer until it kills itself"
due to this i think playing defensively works well in the game
also, i spent the last hour half clearing the game more, and i beat it with reimu, marisa and kana. just a few more characters to go. glad to say i'm getting better at the game but i'm sure a higher difficulty would kick my ass
