While I wouldn't agree that the characters are strong, because they aren't really, the character relations are what's magnificent. The animation isn't extraordinary, but it's above average and the surrealist style fits very well with the series. The story is quite captivating at many levels, although I understand that the average person probably can't follow all the stuff that happens and as such passes it off as boring shit, it is quite a confusing ordeal. But that's what's amazing about the story; it's very good at concealing things, keeping you in the dark and slowly revealing more bits and pieces instead of outright not saying anything then explaining everything at the very end like many stories end up doing. It makes you think and want more because even if you theorize all day you're still missing key pieces of information. This combined with the character relation map weaves a nice complex web. To top it all off, the attention to detail is pretty fantastic. All of the background events have significance, hint towards future events and reveal other details that can't be explicitly shown. But again, the viewer has to pay attention to these things and interpret them as well. Plus, it has Brain's Base's odd sense of jovial humour, rampant symbolism and dare I say randomness. It's just great overall.

i honestly feel sorry for you that you don't enjoy this show
