He's not mocking any social convention, not even close to the way PDS would. What I'm trying to say is that his attempts at character humor fall flat.

PDS is half-English. The reason he hit 1M subs the way he did is that he stuck for as long as he could to the few who would watch him.

Don't get me wrong; my knowledge of PDS does not extend beyond my general interest in the Japanese Youtuber scene, and I too want "Haruna's boyfriend" to succeed at this. I think he just needs to tough it out for at least three years.
