You are assuming he wanted to be insufferable and simply found a better way to do it. But I believe he was genuinely attempting to humiliate fictional girls because that's the only way a non-existent girl can be humiliated: by making people remember them as pathetic humiliated humans, since the are fictional and only exist as long as people think about them.

It's a pretty creative way to humiliate someone who can't technically be humiliated by normal means because she's not real and doesn't have a consciousness.
