So normally 私 when pronounced by a female character is あたし, but when a dude is writing a story (pic related, sample lines from harem girls in some LN and some dialogue from a loli in an H-doujin), they're doing the thing where they spell out Kanji in Hiragana due to naivete/some other reason, yet 私 is written as わたし

Is this him forgetting to write it in the femenine pronunciation due to him being a guy? Or is this intended and correct? It sounds off.
