Really would enjoy talking about Japanese yettis or harrymen. No, not Russians landing in Japan or the Aniu/Emeshi. This was the only image I ever found on the subject in Japanese dpiction.

This is now a Yokai thread instead of "I'mu a silly ironic OP with a silly question I didn't really think through" thread.

So I haven't been able to find anything on a real ape like evil creature lurking in Japan except for this image, which is Japanese. Before someone claims that this yokai is the same thing as Oni or the racist portrayls of either white Russian foreigners or the Ainu/Emshi, STOP, because they're not and I am not talking about the same concept here.
