Starting with the 'visitor from a foreign world' background, while offering some tempting advantages (including higher desirability to exotic mamono and the high initial multiplier to engineering and dimensional magic skills), is a trap for new and experienced alike. It's difficult to understate how disadvantageous not knowing Common is- especially since you're going to go in not knowing anything about local geography or social norms.

So, regrettably, unless you're very lucky and find an [Amulet of Speech] early on, you're going to be best off starting out your new life by finding a wife. Assuming you want to explore a little bit of your new home, try and find a common monster species that isn't sedentary and that won't impair your independence - try to find a species with high growth potential, so you don't leave your adventuring partner in the dust as you grow! The author of this guide prefers low-level undead like zombies, ghosts, and skeletons both for the initial bonus and xp multiplier they apply to necromantic spells and their high potential for future growth. Other suitable wives you might find in or near your starting area - build depending - include lesser succubi, faeries, slimes, harpies, and greenworms, as well as individually-minded p’orcs or elves. If you’re lucky enough to find a lesser elemental around where you drop in, they also make excellent wives to the would-be adventurer.

Try and avoid mamono much more powerful than this - in our experience, they aren’t half as willing to allow you so much independence that you might go adventuring. More likely, they will want to keep you to yourselves, and as a fresh face in the land, you're not strong enough to tell them otherwise! Likewise, avoid arachne, alraunes, amazons, and other monster species which might appear in starting areas that want to keep you in one place.

To our confident or experienced readers who want to nab a more capable wife straight off the bat, find a settlement and ingratiate yourselves to a local religious order. Satyros, houri, valkyrie, and other servants of the gods are stronger than most local monsters won’t impair your independence and may go so far as to encourage adventuring, though they can be hard to find and may require a little wooing. Nothing you’re not capable of, I’m sure!

After you’ve found a wife, you should focus on learning the local tongue (your new wife will be more than happy to teach you) and getting the lay of the land. Earn a little gold, buy some food, camping equipment, and a book on local wildlife, and get adventuring! You and your wife have a long and fulfilling journey ahead of you, I’m sure.

So, regrettably, unless you're very lucky and find an [Amulet of Speech] early on, you're going to be best off starting out your new life by finding a wife. Assuming you want to explore a little bit of your new home, try and find a common monster species that isn't sedentary and that won't overly impair your independence - try to find one with high potential for growth, so you don't leave your adventuring partner in the dust as you travel!
