I am assuming you don't understand step 2. This is just the best amount to set you up for picking up grammar from reading and listening as you will be able to identify what each word is. A lot of grammar study is pretty useless as you can only truly understand grammar through a lot of exposure and no amount of brute force can overcome that.

word types: nouns, verbs, adj, etc.
particles: things like は、でも、から, etc.
agglutination: forms of verbs like いる->いれば
