Shion terramorphed the hill to make it easier to build by only creating a cube over it therefore creating a large hole that the sun can't reach. There also seem to be a cave network dierectly underneath her house. Since mobs always spawn at a fixed distance from players, at any given point there's an army several blocks beneath her waiting for her to drop down
