I've never hear him say anything that could convey self-awareness, then again I've only seen four videos of his. I don't see him as a critical comedian at all. He's definitely notches below PDS, and this from someone who finds PDS annnoying.

I find meta-humor to be an inherently dry kind, and the only times that dry humor gets a pass is when the speaker is already endeared to his viewer base. Kizuna Ai, and perhaps Barara-Karen too, get away with meta because they're animated girls.
