>To be fair, Rika probably doesn't even realize herself that she's shallow. She still acts like Satoko matters to her in front of her new fanclub, and doesn't even seem quite aware of how neglectful she is being.
She's weak to peer pressure, like any teenager or even many emotionally immature adults.

Just look at how this scene played out. She was about to open up to Satoko. Things were about to play out well. Then, one glance at her surroundings. The crowd murmuring and throwing condemning looks at them. She couldn't do it. Had to act according to her social standing as the school princess.

But what really saddens me is that she apparently didn't keep her promise to make time for Satoko that afternoon. Would she really do that?
If they did meet, that should definitely have been on-screen. That'd have been better character development. Seeing them actually try to talk things out, but ending up quarreling or simply not being sincere with each other. Subtle misunderstandings and differing viewpoints. Rika struggling to explain her personality change without mentioning her real history. Or even trying to explain it and Satoko thinking she's fucking crazy.
