A shoggoth doesn't need magic, and if I remember my lore correctly, they're immune to it in the first place.

Also, your average shoggoth is a freight train sized mass of seething protoplasm. Try standing your ground and trying to kill a freight train barreling down on you with a handful of rubber bands. Because that's probably what it would be like. You don't fuck around with shoggoths, you get out of the way and hope that it doesn't notice you as it goes about its mindless, murderous rampage.
