This what happens when your knowledge of the Pacific war is skin deep. You get idiotic statements like these. At Carrier raiding Halsey was one of the best.
He probably would have found more success as a task group commander rather than a fleet admiral but he was not incompetent.
If you want incompetence look no further than this guy. Who couldn't settle things between his underlings Fletcher and Turner. He was also very weak mentally.
