Not really something I can elaborate on conceptually. I was reading jay rubins book and when he began going over 'receivers' like くれる、られる and もらう, he included 欲しい with them. So, I double checked itazura and the synonymous term for that usage of hoshii was もらいたい.

I had been racking my brain over why 私はあなたに英語を教えて欲しい・欲しいです。never meant "I want to teach you english" i get it now, i guess
