French ships have the highest ratio of actually good : shit reputation
Some of their ships are shit, like their CAs and Large DDs (but all large DDs are shit unless you are, like, america)
French CLs and BBs, however, are some of the best in the world
Japanese ships on the other hand will either capsize or explode on you, even without enemy activity

I will forever defend dunkerque, that design was magical shit. Her designers basically used IRL design cheese to make her design. It is basically impossible to recreate her in a ship modeling program on the same weight
The opposite problem comes with the hippers, which are so inefficient you physically can't find out where all the weight went
