From the Masturibayashi TIP:
Ouka was granted the sword by "Heaven", after she used it to defeat the demon god Ouka banished the sword from the Human world. My interpretation is that this means that after Ouka sealed the sword in the statue it immaterialized and disappeared. When Shion and co. break into the Saiguden and break the Statue's head, the sword hasn't materialized yet. This doesn't happen until Hanyuu heals her horn and tells Rika to look for the sword inside the statue.
