A translation is considered a derivative work under US Law (requiring Fair Use of the original item) and on Youtube, an American site, assuming it follows American law, it could be considered an non-profit education purpose which allows for the translation to be an acceptable fair use.
They would have to use the Youtube copyright infringement form to take the reuploads down. Then you could just argue that they're wrong (or that you're also using non-profit education purpose for fair use, particularly if you say, jam two of the clips together) and youtube would wash their hands and send them a "they say it's not copyright, you can sue them if you want, we don't care any more". Although that situation might require you to give Youtube all your own personal details.
The easier on copyright (but harder in terms of work) would just be taking the clips and redoing the subs. Even if you just stole the original subs, if you re-edited them into a different form that is enough that you can just claim that you translated it yourself. And again, to take it further they'd have to move beyond Youtube system.

tl;dr - you can counter-claim once youtube takes down a video, they'll put it back up and then the onus would be on whoever copyright claimed the video to continue it offline.

and lastly, they might not bother claiming them in the first place if you reupload.
