She IS a cat...sort of. It's like saying the Siestas/Chiesters aren't rabbit figurines. They exist in the real world as what they are, some sort of shell or host object. Bern's happens to be a cat.

Keep in mind most of the stuff that happened in the story is the result of a really imaginative amnesiac. Nobody that's a meta character actually "exists" outside of Battler's or Yasu's mind.

Also, Bern being a cat doesn't matter. Bern is still Bern. She's still the best character in the series.
