Nasu did him wrong in F/SN since Shirou is always thinking "Ah yes, my good friend Shinji. I sure like my friend Shinji :)." but you never see them interacting in an even remotely friendly way, Shinji's just an unlikeable cunt.
F/HA kinda fixes this retroactively, showing the reader that despite being a cunt Shinji actually cares about Shirou and they used to hang a lot together in the Matou house. Him and Issei arguing for who gets to spend time with Shirou was nice and homopilled.
But if you only read F/SN Shinji is just a rapist shithead, not even the cool kind of rapist like Shiki. So no wonder animeonlyfags hate him.

Yeah, I re-read F/HA with the voice patch a few years ago and it was worth it, there was so many good shit I didn't remember.
