Lately I'm almost never home. Today I've been working hard and it's already almost sundown. Looks like I'll be spending tonight at Yuuka's. My parents haven't complained much though. I think they are happy I've found a job instead of just lazing about the house all the time. Some job it is...I've been coming into contact with more and more yokai since becoming Yuuka's gardener. I think that I've been around yokai more than humans lately. Well, it's not all bad.
I finished up in the greenhouse and left, only to find a little girl standing there looking around. She spotted me and walked up, emitting the sound of...chains rattling?
"Eeh? a human? what's a human doing at Yuuka's?"
She stopped abruptly with her hands on her hips. The large red bow on her head bounced with the abrupt stop. She had on a short sleeve frilly white button up shirt with a red necktie and long purple skirt with a white flame-like pattern at the hem. The chains I had heard were from the chains attached to her wrists, which attached to a blue cube, red pyramid, and a golden sphere. I guess that she just dragged these around. But most striking was the very large horns sticking out from the sides of her head, one of which was cutely decorated with a little purple bow. She also had large purple gourd bottle which she was carrying.
"Erm, I'm Yuuka's gardener..."
I didn't really know what to say to this girl, so odd was her appearance. But Yuuka had told me about her kind. I was sure that she was an Oni. Either way, she seemed peaceable enough.
"A human gardener? I guess Yuuka was always an odd lady. I'm Suika Ibuki, at your service *hic* ahem, hehe sorry.."
After apologizing did a funny bow, her chains rattling, and resumed her prior position with a silly look on her face. Then, as if remembering something, she took a extended drink from her gourd.
"PWAAH. Want some? it's sake."
This little girl was completely drunk.
"No thanks...but why are you here?"
"Oh yeah, I'm here to pick up something from Yuuka. She knows. Where is she by the way?"
"She is off in the fields but should be back soon. We can wait on the porch."
I walked with her to the porch, only to find a huge, rotund covered pot there. It seemed far too large and heavy for her to have carried it alone, but I didn't question it. Suika said that it was for Yuuka. We sat there for a while, Suika drinking continuously, and jovially going on about this and that, while I sat and relaxed. This little girl Oni sure was odd, but she was entertaining. Eventually Yuuka walked up, in her usual attire, holding her parasol even though the sun was blazing low to the horizon.
"Ara, what's this?"
"Yuuka!"
Suika jumped up and ran over to Yuuka, her chains rattling behind her, jumped up and hugging her. Yuuka smiled and patted her on the head.
"I'm here for that package. And I brought you some of the best sake!"
Yuuka thanked her, then instructed me that the package was prepared inside among the others. Yuuka often sends out various types of flowers to difference eccentric humans and yokai. One of my jobs recently has been preparing some of these and sending them out, though sometimes the recipient will come themselves for it. I grabbed the one that said "Ibuki" and brought it out. Suika thanked Yuuka and ran off. She literally ran, sticking out her arms to side. Is she going for a cute look? What an old girl...
Yuuka asked me to grab the pot and carry it in. I tried to pick it up, but it could hardly lift it. This must be enough sake for a whole party...
"You really can't lift it? I've told you that you need to be doing physical training. I can't have a weakling as an underling."
Yuuka handed me her parasol and effortlessly picked up the pot.
