The most subbed japanese channel has 12M subs and it's a channel for kids, while the second most subbed channel has 9 million subs and top 904 worldwide
Just look at the anime total revenue, half of that comes from overseas and that's just with licencing rights from people streaming the anime and some shitty cheap merch, while the Japanese numbers are boosted by buying overpriced BDs and being able to watch movies and buy all sorts of merch
