I lay, bleeding out on the floor of my beloved laboratory. The sterile snow white of the walls had turned red and grey as my blood poured from me. It was a shame, really. This was the place meant to be the genesis of a perfect civilisation would have been birthed, the genesis of perfection that spanned the stars! Everyone would have won. The humans, the youkai - all of them! They would have all WON! But I had made my errors. I overestimated the self-proclaimed "genius" wench for her pettiness. Did she not comprehend that it was HER actions that had left so oh-so-beloved princess in that state? Or did she understand, and did not care?

And what of the rest of them? What did they do to belong here? The red-white, purple and black flurry that surrounded the blue? Was it so they can benefit off my demise? The same pettiness that enthralled the damned doctor? I would have saved them from themselves. Ungrateful, all of them.

Perhaps it was mere irrational cruelty. I should know. How even the greatest abandoned their better reason in order to attain momentary desires. Yes. This was simply that.

-

Her azure eyes burned with tranquil fury, as they stared icily in contempt. The broken, writhing wreck of a mortal who had slithered his way into the home she had dutifully guarded for millennia. Who casually tore apart the home she had built with Kaguya. He deserved to die. She knew that the worst torment could not break the apathetic arrogance of his. He would merely see it as concession, and take it as victory. He had to be erased.

The memories returned. How she lost herself in lust on those nights, where Kaguya's eyes was tucked away unaware of the desire and thirsts of the other residents. How each night was spent in shameless ecstasy amongst the boy and several others. It was hushed and exhilarating as she laid, satisfied in basking afterglow, pleasure unfelt ever since she left the Capital. Eirin had told herself that it was mere lust, and that it would end when Kaguya consumated and her marriage with Anon become entrenched in copulation.

How that intruder had stood, snickering. Gloating at her. He had proclaimed in excruciating detail how he broke everything, save her with nothing but truthful words and photographs.

The empty eyes of the princess, bloodshot as she stood beside the monster with betrayal overcoming her. She had nothing to say.

And the worst part was that he did not lie. No exaggeration nor falsehood. That was her greatest shame.

He had never lied, not once.

And every reminder hurt.

-

She is hesitating. I should have died several minutes ago. What is happening?

The flurry becomes clearer. I see four faces peering at me. A miko of paradise, who held her gohei against a human who threatened her home. An ordinary witch, who charged with vainglory and kleptomania. And a woman of boundaries, who twisted and turned both meaning and reality. And a brain that I knew I was superior over.

---

"So? This is how it ends? Laying by not surrounded by those who I love, but by those that hate me?"

The Scientist's voice was getting weaker.

"I was a mere villager, an outsider child who fell through destined to die under the jaws of a feral abomination. But through luck and wit, I found myself in that very village, cared for, and loved. Years later, I found working myself as a teacher at a school run by Keine. I had always hungered for knowledge. To devour all I could know."

He looked at the former flurry.

"I learned that I lived in a land called Gensokyo, a world separated to protect the things that were forgotten by humanity. A balance had to made, of course. Anyone could have figured that out. But tell me, how would anyone react that these beings you called "youkai" thrived upon your fear? That they fed off you like parasites while keeping you locked in the past? And despite the obviousness of it all, no one cared. They simply moved on with their day. I could not comprehend it."

His eyes turned to the witch.

"I had confessed my fears to great Hieda, as she wrote that Chronicle, in hope of solace and comfort. I found neither. She had looked at me like an oddity, and mumbled a string of irrelevant words. I was confused. I sought to know more."

The Scientist took a shallow breath.

"During this time, I began to leave the village in order to explore and soothe my thoughts. And I was attacked by a youkai in a ball of darkness. It was hopeless and I faced my death.

"But I found someone. She had red hair, a cape and a purple bow on her head. She struck down the youkai with a dazzle of light. She asked if I was okay, to which I nodded yes. It snowballed from there."

"And then I learnt what should have been a terrible truth. One night, I saw a floating head. Red hair, with the same face as my love. We stared at each other for a split second. She soon broke down, begged me to leave her. And you know what I did? I grabbed her head and kissed her. I didn't care. And for once, I was happy."
