It's not so bad if he wakes up shortly after Matsuri, he only really misses out on a year.

Him waking up five years later at the end of Sotsu was a completete slap in the face, especially since we never get an actual reunion with him.

I mean, keeping a character comatose for almost twenty goddamn real life years and then bringing him back only to suffer? I think that's over the line even for him.

A better question would be, what IS Satoshi's condition? In Gou's 1987?

Some points to consider:
- A previous episode made a point to show the viewers Irie from a different fragment being dedicated to saving Satoshi, and more or less getting his way even when facing disciplinary action.
- Then, Hinamizawa Syndrome effectively disappeared in 1984.
- Irie is still around in 1987 and in a position to fund the lives of Satoko & Rika. So, he appears to be still closely connected to Hinamizawa. And getting funded despite his questionable reputation, so he's likely still employed at the clinic and continuing the work related to the disease.

Was Satoshi cured in 1984 along everyone else?
If he woke up from his years of coma and is still alive, he probably should be out of hospital rehab already by 1987. But we haven't seen any signs of him. What's going on with him?
Why is Satoshi's role downplayed to near zero in Gou, despite Satoko's importance?
